Welcoming Address

Distinguished Colleagues,

The 6th Annual Congress of the Turkish Thoracic Society (TTS) will be held on 23-26 April 2003, in Antalya, Turkey. We are happy to invite you to our congress, during which we will be discussing the latest developments in the field of respiratory diseases and regional, national and global problems regarding lung health.

This congress is conducted in collaboration with the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the American Thoracic Society (ATS). In addition to the Turkish participants, we expect colleagues from Balkans, Middle East, Caucasia and Central Asia to participate in the Congress. Last year, in the 5th Congress of the Turkish Thoracic Society, 300 of 1740 clinicians registered were from regional countries and one third of the 731 reports presented were from these participants.

The Annual Congress of the Turkish Thoracic Society has a regional characteristic and the official languages are Turkish and English. Simultaneous translations will be available in all sessions. The scientific program consists of over 80 sessions in clinical and basic sciences and in medico-social issues. We hope that, the information exchanged, discussed and produced through the Congress will have major contributions to the national and international practice and form a basis for new scientific collaborations.

We hope that, Antalya, which is Turkey’s heaven of history, nature, sea and sun will be very comprehensive, both in scientific and social aspects, and we are looking forward to your active participation with your reports.

During the congress, we hope to attain a high scientific and social activity level as well as sharing our knowledge and experience with you.

Once more in hope of meeting you in Antalya,

Ali Kocabaş
