INTERNATIONAL UNION AGAINST TUBERCULOSIS AND LUNG DISEASE (IUATLD)/ UNION
The UNION is a scientific non govermental organisation that consisted of 2000 members from 160 countries.
Foundation date: 1920
Location: France/Paris
Mission: The prevention and control of tuberculosis and lung disease, as well as related health problems
Target population: The mission has been set up on a world wide basis, with a particular emphasis on low income countries.
The goal: To promote national autonomy within the framework of the priorities of each country by developing, implementing and assessing anti-tuberculosis and respiratory health programmes.
The aim:
1) To gather and to disseminate knowledge on all aspects of tuberculosis and lung disease, as well as HIV and resulting community health problems
2) To alert doctors, decision makers, opinion leaders and the general public to the dangers presented by tuberculosis and lung disease, as well as the community health problems associated with them
3) To co-ordinate, assist and promote the work of its constituent members throughout the world
4) To establish and maintain close links with the World Health Organization, other United Nations organisations, and government and non-government institutions in health and development sectors
